Social Media Image Sizes 2026: The Complete Cheat Sheet for Every Platform

Instagram changed its grid to portrait format in January 2026. TikTok now supports 35-photo carousels. Here are the correct image dimensions for every major platform, updated for April 2026.

Instagram

Content Type Dimensions Aspect Ratio
Grid Post (new portrait) 1080 x 1350 px 4:5
Stories 1080 x 1920 px 9:16
Reels cover 1080 x 1920 px 9:16
Carousel 1080 x 1350 px 4:5
Profile photo 320 x 320 px 1:1

Key change for 2026: Instagram's grid now displays posts in 4:5 portrait format instead of 1:1 square. Old square images will be center-cropped. If your grid matters, resize existing images to 1080x1350.

Format Recommendations

For all platforms in 2026:

  • JPEG — Universal support, safe default
  • WebP — Smaller files, accepted by most platforms now
  • PNG — Use for graphics with text or transparency only

Most platforms will re-compress your images on upload. Start with high quality (90+) so the re-compression doesn't degrade too much.

Batch Resizing for Multiple Platforms

If you're posting the same content across platforms, you need multiple sizes from one source image. In Konvrt:

  1. Open the batch processor
  2. Drop your images
  3. Set the crop ratio (4:5 for Instagram, 9:16 for Stories/TikTok, 16:9 for YouTube/X)
  4. Set the resize dimensions
  5. Convert and download

You'll need to run separate batches for each platform's dimensions, but preset saving makes this fast for recurring workflows.

Quick Reference: One Image for Everything?

If you can only create one image size, use 1080 x 1350 px (4:5). It works well on:

  • Instagram (native grid format)
  • Facebook (displays well in feed)
  • Threads (native format)
  • LinkedIn (acceptable crop)

For Stories and TikTok, you'll always need separate 9:16 (1080 x 1920) versions.
